Food & Tourism Strategy for West Gippsland.

West Gippsland Food & Tourism Strategy

This West Gippsland Food & Tourism Strategy will help WGPA to positively improve businesses and growing food tourism opportunities in the peri-urban farming area of West Gippsland, and provide a strong foundation for future long-term tourism planning and development.

As part of this strategy, here are some of the benefits the West Gippsland region has gained:

  • Increased awareness of the railway townships within the Bunyip Ward through promotion with key Victorian media and tourism partners

  • Investment in photography and videography to support local food and tourism operators

  • Targeted digital and social media campaigns promoting township villages and regional experiences

  • Ongoing promotion of local businesses through regional guides and touring maps

Hidden gems are waiting to be discovered…

The West Gippsland region has so many hidden gems waiting to be explored… Biddy Martha’s Cafe - a boutique cafe located in Bunyip is one of many!

West Gippsland Progress Association Food & Tourism Workshops

In partnership with the Cardinia Shire Council (CSC), West Gippsland Progress Association undertook several Food & Tourism workshops in late 2020 to gain insight and understand the local community’s needs & wants. This process identified ways to increase prosperity and build a more robust local economy after the devasting Bunyip Complex bushfires in March 2019.

The below illustrations (courtesy of Kristy Moegerlein) captured the findings from each of the workshops. These ideas and thoughts of the participants provided WGPA and CSC with the foundations to undertake a long-term Food & Tourism Strategy for the West Gippsland.
